THE SHOPS

Atelier consists of two exciting galleries in Nashville, Tennessee which specialize in fine artisan jewelry. They feature original designs by owner Susan Russell, as well as several other jewelry designers, glassblowers, weavers, potters, and painters. The word "atelier" means an artist’s workshop or studio. Susan’s intriguing designs are created right here in the shop.

THE OWNER

Susan Russell fell in love with rocks and fossils at camp in Colorado as a child, and the fascination has only increased. She thinks of minerals and gemstones as marvelous gifts of nature, and her unique jewelry pieces are designed to showcase the colors and other attributes of the stones. Susan attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studied with a silversmith, and takes metalsmithing classes at the Appalachian Center for Crafts when time allows. She can often be seen making jewelry at one of her two Nashville galleries, Atelier in Green Hills (4113 Hillsboro Road) or Atelier at the Loveless Cafe Shops (8400 Highway 100). Susan enjoys making one-of-a-kind custom pieces, and hopes you enjoy her jewelry as much as she enjoys making it for you!

MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP

Each of our creations is individually handmade of high karat gold, sterling silver (.925 silver) or fine silver (.97 silver or more), or, where economy is desired by the customer, vermeil (18k gold over sterling silver) or 14k gold filled metal. (14k gold filled material is created by permanently bonding a relatively thick layer of 14k gold (significantly thicker than in plated metal) over a metal alloy. The 14k gold filled materials we use are of the highest quality and result in jewelry that is affordable as well as durable; it will not ‘turn’ and will not wear through with years of normal use). Often, you will be able to order a particular design made in your choice of 18k gold, 22k gold, sterling silver, or 14k gold filled metal.
